15 THINGS THAT HAPPEN DURING A GOT WATCH PARTY

With the new season of Game of Thrones just around the corner, okay there’s still like two months but considering we’ve been waiting all year, just let us have this moment.

So with the new season approaching, so are those Game of Thrones watch parties with all your friends. Here are all the things you think about while watching Game of Thrones.

15. When you put on HBO at the exact hour and you still have to wait for those damn HBO trailers to finish

arya-waiting

Like, The Leftovers seems like it would be a cool show, but no I don’t care to watch a 4 minute trailer right now, just please, take me to Westeros.

14. When your friends roll up with a 40-pack of birthday cake timbits and donuts and you’re so grateful you have good people around you

got-tyrion-snacks

Set the mood right with the perfect snacks, whether it’s a delicious dessert, or some 7-layer dip and chips, you know HBO has no commercials, so you better have everything you could ever want in the next 55 minutes, right in front of you.

13. When your friends roll up with a big bottle of red and you’re just like ‘how fitting, it’s the colour of BLOOD!’

cersei-morewine

[Caution: Consuming large amounts of alcohol will affect your memory and you may not remember key moments of the episode the next morning at work, so just like, be careful]

12. When you tell all your friends to put their phones away or you will literally set them all on fire #bye

dragon-burnthephone

Guys, this is not a joke, phone usage will not be tolerated during Game of Thrones watching, there is no reason for you to be on your phone, because the next 55 minutes is literally all that matters in life. I’m just saying, I will be okay with setting your mobile devices on fire.

11. When you had to wash your hair and didn’t have time to dry it before the episode so you’re stuck for the next hour with wet hair

jon-wethair

Seriously, this is legit #firstworldproblems. You know you had to wash your hair for work the next day, but all your friends were coming through so you didn’t have time to dry your hair and now you’re stuck for 55 minutes with wet/cold hair. But realistically, you don’t even mind because Game of Thrones is life.

10. It’s time to dim the lights…

khalees-screaming

I don’t be messin’ around with potential TV glare, the lights need to be turned down low for maximum Game of Thrones watching. The person closest to the light switch will feel my wrath.

9. When the opening sequence starts and one of your friends is like ‘I haven’t caught up I’m still like on season 4’

got-whyareyouhere

No but really, did you think there was going to be a PowerPoint presentation recapping the last three seasons? If you’re not caught up, then I can’t help you.

8. When everyone starts eating and your living room floor is basically destroyed

khalees-dontspill

LOL, this one doesn’t even bother me because again, Game of Thrones is life and nothing else really matters for the next hour.

7. When the episode literally just started and someone’s already asking a question

cersei-annoyed

We have slotted some time after the episode to discuss scenes and/or ask questions, please refrain from speaking for the next hour. Again there are no commercial breaks, you will just have to guess what was said in the scene if you didn’t hear them

6. When the entire room didn’t hear what was said in the scene, so it’s okay to use your PVR powers and rewind the scene

got-pvrvibes

You can only use your PVR powers once, as long as everyone in the room agrees they had no idea what just happened in that scene, and to be fair, that does happen often in Game of Thrones.

5. When that 7-layer dip gets to you and someone lets one rip

khaleesi-thefart

LOL, it’s okay, you’re forgiven.

4. When you’re halfway through an epic scene and you realize Littlefinger and Varys basically started the entire show

littlefinger-starteditall

It’s true, Littlefinger is the cause of everything, he legit played a little finger in every single death and decision from the beginning. Think about it.

3. When someone shows up to the watch party with a cold and now you’re stuck breathing the same air as them

gpt-cersei

By this point, you’re in the thick of the episode and to be honest you probably won’t even notice if one of your friends is having a severe cough attack, so really, just keep watching, you’re good.

2. When everything you wanted to happen in the episode didn’t happen and now you’re left with an empty soul

sansa-yourdreams

Half the fun of watching Game of Thrones is predicting/hoping/wishing/yearning for the outcome of your dreams, and when it doesn’t happen, you’re literally, crushed to the core. Also, you do feel really stupid when you cursed King Joffrey to his death but his death didn’t even happen until season four.

1. When the night and the episode comes to an end and you’re wishing all your friends a safe drive home

melisandre-whenyourfriendsleave

The hardest part of the night is saying goodbye to your friends wishing them a safe drive home. Having to retreat to your bedroom with all of tonight’s epic moments floating through your head is extremely daunting. The night is truly dark and full of terrors.

The seventh season of Game of Thrones premieres Sunday July 16th on HBO.

GAME OF THRONES SEASON 7 TEASER!

We’re calling this a teaser because there is no footage what so ever from the upcoming 7th season but that doesn’t mean we didn’t have chills watching this teaser. In 90 seconds they basically sum up all the biggest moments of the show leading up to this new season. You hear a lot of angry Khaleesi in there and you know it’s about to be her season. But, as we all know Winter is here, and that means there’s a bigger battle to be fought. I can’t believe we have to wait until July for this!!

TOP 10 TV HEROINE’S OF 2017!

In honour of International Women’s Day, we’ve come up with a list of the Top 10 Toughest Women on TV. (This post was originally created in October 2013 – some rankings have changed based on the ending of several series – sorry Gemma Teller and Deborah Morgan) Click here to see who made the original list.

10. Arya Stark (Game of Thrones)

So Arya Stark made our original list as well, coming in at the number ten spot, it’s not that we don’t think Arya is the ultimate heroine, she embodies everything that is a heroine, we just think she has so much more potential. She’s been on this crazy journey since the moment they chopped off Ned Stark’s head in the first season. She made it over to Braavos, she was selling oysters and cockles, she was blind and learned how to become a master fighter, and now she’s ready to kick some Lannister butt. Just like Khaleesi, Arya is on her journey home and I’m getting goosebumps just writing this up because I am so excited to see her reunite with everyone. Or at least, check off some of those names on her list. She is the Kill Bill of our heroine list. Do you guys see Arya making it to the end of the show? I’m so curious about her fate just because I don’t know if I need her alive at the end to feel satisfied, but I definitely need her to see her sister and brother at some point before the finale.

Arya_Stark

9. Lisa Prince (Kingdom)

Lisa Prince makes this list because the actress Kiele Sanchez absolutely swooped in and stole the second half of the season. It was one of the most powerful and heartbreaking performances I’ve ever seen,  because she decided to come back on the show and share the heartbreaking experience of losing her child in real life. Both the creator of the show and Kiele decided to write her ordeal into the show, her character Lisa was already pregnant. For a show that’s majority sweaty men fighting their faces off, I can’t tell you the amount of power Kiele brought as a female character to the experience of watching this season. As a woman, as a viewer, I felt every single moment she was portraying, in those quiet and silent moments they gave her, those were the scenes where you just knew she was no longer ‘acting’. I also want to give props to the creator of the show that believed in her story, he believed in it so much that he wasn’t afraid to share her story in a show that is mostly watched by men, and is about men. lisa_small-4e2029a3Over the remainder of the season she tries to heal, she tries to get back to #werklife, and her acting honestly was brilliant. She was always a side character before, but this season she showed how she could hold her own. Surrounded by a group of men with seemingly superhero strengths, she came out as her own heroine. We can dig it.

8. Maeve Millay (Westworld)

The first season of Westworld didn’t just see the rise of the host population, it saw the rise of some badass bi**** to. The character of Maeve (played exquisitely by Thandie Newton) starts off as a sort of secondary character. Playing the hostess of the town’s brothel she’s used to getting used and abused by men from both sides. But when she’s taken backstage to fix up her robot wounds, she wakes up in the middle of a procedure and quite literally wakes up for the first time ever. I mean by the end of the season we learn more about her motivations and how much she can control, but even still, her character became one of the most interesting elements of the season, and almost answered the question fans were asking from the beginning. What would happen if a host enters the real world? We don’t know what’s in store for Maeve in season two, but we know that wherever she ends up, she’ll keep fighting to protect herself and her freedom.

7. Ginny Baker (PITCH)

ginnybaker,kylie bunbury,pitch on fox

Ginny Baker aka the first female professional baseball player. This show is full of amazing characters, especially some strong female leads, but at the center of it all is Ginny who is introduced to the MLB in the first season. And no, she’s not playing with other females, she’s playing alongside the big boys, so you can imagine the dynamic you’ll be seeing as she comes into the locker room, and how she plays on the field. Honestly, this was one of my favourite new shows this year, it still hasn’t been confirmed for a season two, so we are crossing our fingers.

6. Queen Elizabeth (The Crown)

the-crown

God save the Queen! Or Claire Foy because she’s absolutely killing it playing Queen Elizabeth II. Claire Foy plays the Queen in a naive, playful, but really smart way. One of my favourite lines of the season, is when the Queen’s father has just passed away and she’s on the way to his funeral and she reads a letter from her grandmother and in the letter granny writes something like, today you are mourning two people, your father, and yourself because the person you were before is dead. Because she’s obviously the Queen now and she needs to step up, and stepping up may require her to be a different person, or a different version of herself. I think her biggest struggle to be Queen will always be the challenge of not forgetting who she really is. Staying true to herself while having to play the heroine for an entire kingdom.

5. The Girls of Riverdale (Betty, Veronica, Cheryl)

It’s not that I couldn’t decide which one of these characters is the strongest, or which one will have the biggest impact. It’s that I think these three characters are seamless, in that together they make the show better, they make their individual characters stronger, they affect each other in a way that impressionable teenage girls would have on one another. It’s been said, Riverdale is definitely a coming of age story. The show is full of characters, all learning about themselves in their own ways, but these three women have the potential to really control the direction and tone of the show. All three of them prove that there can be so many more layers to a character. Their comic book counterparts are very one dimensional, and very dependent on Archie’s story. We don’t see that as much in the show, I think the writers have something really amazing lined up for us.

4. Carrie Mathison (Homeland)

Honestly, Carrie is so good at being crazy, you just have to love her. People ask me if they should watch Homeland from the pilot episode, and I’m always like YAS! Duh!. But the show is really different from where it started. I’d like to say that Carrie has been the most consistent thing of the show, but I can’t because she’s legit crazy. There ain’t nothing consistent about a crazy person. But, the writers of do such an amazing job every season by throwing her crazy Carrie ass into different countries and situations, she shows how strong she is because she manages to save the world each time. I love that they slowed her life down this season. She’s back in NYC, she’s taking care of Frannie, and for what was basically 15 minutes of the first episode, everything looked to be pretty normal. And then there was Quinn, and crazy Carrie came out again, and every type of sh** hit the fan, but I believe in Carrie so much, that I know she’ll get out of it, she always does. Look, women are crazy, moms are crazy, but if you own it, and can still save the world from a massive terrorist attack, then you’re good in my books. Love you Carrie. Your baby daddy would be so proud.

3. Norma Bates (Bates Motel)

So I’m not a huge horror genre fan, although I’m obsessed with Ryan Murphy and everything AHS. I never got into Bates Motel. Well I tried a couple of times and then gave up. But everyone’s been talking so highly of it recently, I gave it another go, and now I’m hooked. Freddie Highmore does a psycho good job at playing Norman, but his mom – Norma is on another level. I think the most interesting characters are the ones that border on the line of villain/heroine. You get those beautiful moments in that middle area when you don’t know what the characters motivations are, you question their decisions, and you’re always on your toes. That’s Norma Bates. Played by Vera Farmiga, she honestly deserves all the awards. But so does everyone else on this list! She does such an amazing job at playing crazy so beautifully, Cersei is evil, and Carrie is crazy, but Norma is a mix of evil being beautiful. And I say beautiful because everything she does is rooted in her trying to be the best mother, she is so delusional, she believes she’s living in a beautiful innocent world with her son, but in trying to attain that she does some really fu**** up evil things. But in season four, you really see her for who she really is (because Norman’s away) she shows her true colours, and she is wonderful.

2. Fiona Gallagher, Shameless (Showtime)

Fiona_GallagherFiona Gallagher was on our original list, and it’s no surprise she still is. Her character has definitely grown over the past seasons, but this season saw a complete shift in her follow through. For a long time I think Fiona always knew what she had to do but could never actually do it. With most of the kids now older and able to fend for themselves, it gave Fifi a chance to focus on herself, her future investments, owning and managing her own business. It was amazing to see how far she’s come. Not all stories have a happy ending, especially in Shameless, the season had a super emotional ending with Monica, but it also saw Fiona make another brave and exciting decision. She’s in our number two spot because of all the things she achieved this season, there were a lot of different dynamics she had to deal with this season, in terms of her acting, and just her character, we loved it all.

1. Khaleesi, Game of Thrones (HBO)

I don’t think you have to be a Game of Thrones nerd to understand why Khaleesi will go down in TV history as the toughest character under 6 ft. She is the ultimate heroine, she is the mother of dragons, she will seek her revenge and it will be amazing. Also, she will stay on this list forever.

Seasons have come and gone. Winter is here. The end of season six saw Khaleesi set sail for King’s Landing, or wherever she’s about to dock her boat. Just as we suspected, the Greyjoys, you can really see how all these story lines are starting to intersect now. She’s got her dragons. She’s ready as she’ll ever be. Also, it’s perfect timing for her because King’s Landing had an explosive ending (I love saying that), with everyone literally blowing up – thanks Cersei.

Khaleesi_Dragon

————————————————————————–Honourable Mentions:

  • Cersei Lannister: That evil witch. Is she still considered to be a villian even after all her children are dead? Probably, yes, and even more so now.
  • Michonne/Carol: I love these women, but The Walking Dead has been so boring lately I couldn’t even bother putting them on this list.
  • Lena Dunham or Hannah Horvath: I had such high expectations for Girls, it is their final season, and I had wanted Hannah to be a more flushed out/successful character by now. Well I wanted that for all of them but Jessa’s still selfish, Shosh is still confused, Marnie is still crazy and Hannah is pregnant. So there’s that.
  • Big Little Lies: Literally every woman in this show is badass.

What do you guys think? Are there any badass female characters you want to see on our list? Let us know – comment below.

GAME OF THRONES: RECAP ‘THE DOOR’

This week’s episode of Game of Thrones delivered arguably the saddest moment of the season yet. I won’t get into details here, but listen to our podcast as we recap and analyze episode 5 titled ‘The Door’. Hint: It has something to do with Hodor.

To listen to Recap Rewind’s Game of Thrones weekly podcast visit the YouTube channel Here:

GAME OF THRONES: RECAP ‘THE RED WOMAN’

Okay, I’ve given you a day to catch up on your Game of Thrones episode from Sunday night. The premiere episode titled ‘The Red Woman’ was one of the most powerful season openers the show has ever done. Some of our cliffhangers were answered right off the top (Sansa and Theon), and some were explained further (Khaleesi and the witty Khalasar)

So instead of writing up a full recap, because the one EW has is pretty freakin’ awesome – you can check out our Recap Rewind weekly podcast.I’ll be uploading them every Sunday night so be sure to check back here after the episode!

Vinyl: If You’re Not Watching It’s Not Too Late

Never did I imagine I’d be interested in a show about rock and roll and vinyl records, but give me Bobby Cannavale in bell bottoms and I am down like a clown.

Now that we’ve seen two episodes (HBO has already renewed it for a second season) I can say overall that I’m really digging this world right now. There’s obviously a dream team of players behind the production of Vinyl. You have Martin Scorcese, Mick Jagger, Terence Winter who did Boardwalk Empire, you’ve got a slew of top notch directors, and of course a star studded cast. So fine, there’s a lot of money that’s gone into this show but that’s never a guarantee.

The Story

vinyl-bobbyIt’s some time in the 70s and Bobby Cannavale aka Richie Finestra is in his car on the side of some road trying to buy coke. He looks like a bum at first but then you realize the car he’s sitting in, it has a phone, his clothes are pretty spiffy, okay he looks like someone who’s made some moolah. So you’re wondering why’s he in this car trying to score some coke? Well, you’ll find out in the next two hours that Richie is the owner of a record label called American Century. The season premiere episode was a an hour and fourty minutes long! That’s crazy, and also some moments really did feel that long. But I will say they did pull through in the end, meaning it all came full circle and left me wanting more of the world.

Olivia Wilde plays Richie’s wife, Ray Romano plays Richie’s business partner and Mick Jagger’s son plays a young Mick Jagger.

The Music

Like I said, I’m not a huge rock and roll fan so I couldn’t tell you if a song is a song, or a song being played by someone else. A few people have commented that the show didn’t buy all the rights to the songs they play, which is understandable but surprising because this is an HBO show. So if the music is your only draw to the show you might be a little disappointed when you hear someone else doing a cover of your favorite song. But really, don’t think too much about it. Just sit back, and enjoy the ride!

So, if you’re looking for a new show to watch, I’m saying get on HBO’s Vinyl even if you’re not a rock and roll fan. And even if you don’t want to watch it, don’t worry Game of Thrones is just around the corner.

TOP 10: GoT Season 6 What We’re Excited For

So we’ve had a few Game of Thrones teasers drop in the past week, can you guys believe it’s almost that time again? Instead of breaking down what we see or don’t see in the promos, let’s just go over what we’re really excited about this season.

The writers left off with our main characters turning a corner in their individual arcs and pointing them in a direction that will probably send them to the finale of the series. Having said that, GOT fans claim every season will top the last, but this one, I think, will have the biggest changes. Or maybe it won’t, I’m not a writer on the show but I really wish I was.

10. Where have all the dire wolves gone?

jonsnow-direwolf

Not that I’m a crazy dog lover or anything, but seriously, where are all the damn dire wolves? I feel like a huge symbol of the Stark family rising back up will be the return of the animal(s), we know Arya’s wolf is still out there, maybe Sansa will run into it since she’s all up on the North side. Then it’ll be like a part of her sister is always with her, or not. Because really nothing good ever happens to the Starks.

9. Where did the zombies go?

whitewalkers-got

The last time we saw all the white walkers they were full out zombie status at Hardhome, and Jon Snow and his crew barely made it out. That gave the zombies enough time to head to Georgia and fake kill Glenn. Ha. We haven’t seen the last of them, not that I’m particularly excited to see them again, I just have this deep dark feeling they’re going to f*** sh** up.

8. More wine nights with Khaleesi and Tyrion

Khaleesi-Tyrion-Olivia

Seriously though, how amazing was that conversation between Khaleesi and Tyrion. Now that the two are ‘friends’ I’m hoping to see them have more deep conversations with Olivia Pope sized wine glasses. But first, let’s bring Khaleesi home!

7. Gendry, we know you’re still out there!

got-gendry

I feel like as quickly as I remember Gendry, I quickly forget about him. But let’s not forget, technically, he is King of the seven kingdoms right now. But beyond that, I’m hoping he’s going to play some type of role this season. Last time we saw him, Davos was pushing him away into the water in the middle of the night. Maybe he’s Arya’s true soulmate and they can run the kingdom together, but again, nothing ever good happens to the Starks. I got my eye on you Gendry, even if Arya doesn’t. (Because she can’t see anymore – see what I did there?)

6. Cersei, on a scale of 1 to 10 how mad are you?

got-cersei

But really Cersei, really, how mad are you? I cannot wait for this scene to go down when Jamie Lannister has to tell his baby mama aka his sister, that their daughter is dead. She died on the way home after being sent to a very pretty resort type of living arrangement in Dorne. That last scene with Jamie and his daughter, and how she really knew the story of her mother and him, it was beautiful. But bye Felicia, your momma has done too many horrible things for you to survive this. And another thing, you know that Amber Rose slut walk Cersei Lannister shame walk, did not even phase Cersei. But the news about her daughter is definitely going to break her. But on a scale of 1 to 10…how mad are you Cersei? (Side note: Amber Rose > Kanye)

5. Will Brienne finally accomplish one thing on her checklist? AkA Sansa.

brienneoftarth-got

We all love Brienne, yay, girl power, feminism, cool. But real talk this girl has done nothing since the show has started, I mean she’s done a lot, she’s literally been moving all around the Game of Thrones world map looking for someone, or trying to protect someone she’s looking for. She’s on a mission but she never really completes the mission. Or like she completes the mission but Jamie’s hand is missing so it doesn’t really count. Anyways, we love Brienne, and I’m wondering if her week-long spy session on Winterfell will actually amount to anything. Is she going to save Sansa? Like maybe she needed to fail 300 missions to finally complete 1 and that’s to save Sansa. Again, girl power.

4. Has Arya reached Uma Thurman Kill Bill Status?

94dd15576ca3b935f1a52b2351b033a2bae61b81cb46530022df3300b696870b

Arya’s storyline last season was amazing. She was so Uma Thurman in Kill Bill, but she was also a little rebel. As her punishment she loses her vision, and I’m wondering if that’s going to last forever or are they going to let her prove herself and then give her vision back? Maybe she’ll never get to see again, but maybe she won’t need to if her dire wolf has 20/20. Love the dogs, but don’t think her story is going that way. Either way, I’m super excited for her story. I really just want her to meet Khaleesi.

3. Khaleesi and the pickle.

khaleesi kidnapped, khaleesi and drogon, dragon names game of thrones, jon snow dead

This girl is in a pickle. She literally has her hand in the pickle jar, she’s totally f*****, I don’t know how she’s going to get herself out of the pickle jar. Her dragons wish they could eat a pickle, but there’s no food around and so they’re so weak, they can’t save their momma. Khaleesi is surrounded by the Dothraki, this is how we left her last season. I mean I’m not worried about her safety. I don’t think they would kill the mother of dragons (by they I mean the writers) But they might be okay with killing one of her dragons, aka proving the point that she might not be as invincible as she thinks. Is this a possibility? CAN this happen? Should we be worried? These are all very important questions.

2. How much progress has Bran made? / Is he a dragon yet?

stark-superman

This one might be a little surprising for some fans, but really I’m legitimately worried/curious about Bran. I feel like even though we haven’t seen him in a season he’s done a lot of work in the background or more literally, underground in that cave thingy. I’m hoping that he might, or maybe he already is able to warg himself into Khaleesi’s dragons. Because you know, one of her dragons was missing for quite some time, so maybe he was roaming around the North and Bran was able to find a signal. Who knows, but it might make sense right? Like I’m not crazy for thinking that? Is that too ambitious for us to assume Bran has done that much work while he was away in season 5? I wouldn’t put it past this kid, he’s been making very smart decisions that even adults wouldn’t be able to make. Let’s not forget how noble he was in season 4 when he made the decision not to call out Jon’s name. Moving on.

1. WTF happened to Jon Snow?

jon-snow-dead

Alright, here we are. We know that Jon snow isn’t dead. But what is he? Where is he? When will we see him again? These are all questions we want answered, sooner rather than later. Not to say that we need Jon Snow back immediately, to be honest I’m a little over the entire Night’s Watch set, so I don’t mind if we don’t go back there for a while. But I still want to know wtf happens to him. Obviously the red woman Melisandre is going to play a big part in his ‘revenant-ing’ himself, can we use that word? I think everyone is excited to see and hear his beautiful voice again. Also, everyone’s like ‘see they didn’t kill him!’ And honestly, Melisandre, girl, just send us an email, or a Tweet, we just want to know that you’re working on him, and we’ll be good.

Did we miss anything? Is there something else you’re excited to see in the upcoming season? What you guys think of having a few flashbacks with Lyanna and Rhaegar?? I want to know more about those two lovebirds.

TV Fall Preview

It’s about that time of the year when all the good shows are back in business (exclude: Game of Thrones, Orange is the New Black) with a full schedule lined up, it won’t be a surprise when the streets seem a little emptier.

Here are some of the upcoming shows we’re excited about and when you can expect them to premiere:

fox,scream queens

Scream Queens (Sept 22)

The only show on this list that’s a series premiere this season. It is the highly anticipated new series by AHS creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk. There’s a murder, there’s a college campus and a bitchy sorority, mixed in with a star studded cast and we’ve got a potential hit on our bloody hands. Look out for Nick Jonas, Emma Roberts and Ariana Grande.

How to Get Away with Murder (Sept 24)

Last season’s explosive and shocking finale left us all wondering who dunn’ it…again! How do these people keep killing people and making it all so shocking? I’m going to blame Shonda Rhimes because she’s the genius behind this show (also Scandal and Grey’s Anatomy) I really appreciated the storytelling of the first season, it’s such a smart show and very thought out. Once you figure out what’s a flashback and what’s not…you’re good to go.

Empire (Sept 23)

empire,FOX,

Arguably the most popular show of last season, Empire follows Lucious Lyon (sort of a Puff Daddy or Russell Simmons persona) as he continues to run his empire with his three sons and cray cray ex-wife Cookie played by Taraji P. Henson. Although the show’s on FOX, okay I really shouldn’t say that because they brought us The O.C and that was the greatest gift from God. But for a primetime show that doesn’t have a big budget like HBO or Showtime, it’s pretty freakin’ entertaining! The writing is borderline soap opera but still fun to watch. And the music is on point people! Also, the drama is always hot and Cookie is always crazy.

Homeland (Oct 4)

I feel like Homeland continuously blows minds, and it has been since the first season. Homeland has evolved into really, a completely different story and I love that the writers were able to do that in the aftermath of a major character death. There is definitely a challenge in keeping this show as entertaining as it is. It takes place in present day, within the confines of reality. It’s not in a mystical world, it doesn’t depend on zombies or dragons to bring that greater than life feel. It’s straight up real world drama, politics, war…and motherhood. Which leads me to Claire Danes, who is phenomenal in this series. I honestly believe she’s crazy in real life, because nobody can play crazy that good and still be faking it.

The Affair (Oct 4)

the-affair

One of my favourite picks from last seasons line up. The Affair also proved that HBO and Showtime are full out going head to head bringing us the most diverse and entertaining shows on our screens. The Affair follows 2 couples, the man from the city falls in love with the girl from Montauk, that sort of thing. But here’s what they did differently, and what makes the show that much better. You know how everyone has their own version of events, or you notice something that the next person doesn’t notice. The Affair cuts between ‘his story’ and ‘her story’ one coming after the other in the episode. They’re never being juxtaposed. And you notice things in his version that never happened in hers. (eg. In his version she is much more aggressive and wants to pursue him even though he’s a married man. In her version he’s the pursuer and she’s holding back) It’s a very unique way of telling the story, even though we’ve seen our fare share of affairs on screen.

American Horror Story: Hotel (Oct 7)

Lady Gaga kicks off the new season of AHS playing a matriarchal figure in the season, aka the boss ass bitch. Which comes at a good time as our usual ‘mama dearest’ role was played by Jessica Lange who left after last season. So what do we know about all the characters this season? Not a whole lot, but we do know there are a ton of new actors filling up roles. Kathy Bates and Angela Bassett are back again, and the whole season is taking place in a hotel. Hello, The Shining, this season is going to be crazy. But I said that about last years Freak Show and it turned out to be my least favourite.

The Walking Dead (Oct 11)

If you haven’t been watching Fear the Walking Dead you’re missing out on a whole new experience in zombie watching. It is such a different show, the world is completely different because we get to see what went down before all the zombies. It’s been nice watching Fear as it’s become like the appetizer dish to the full course meal that is The Walking Dead. So apparently everything’s going down this season, Morgan’s back and those wolf people know about Alexandria. So yeah it’s probably going to be a crazy season. Just please don’t kill Beth, oh right you guys already did that and ruined everything.

Kingdom (Oct 14)

kingdom-season2

If anyone wants to see Nick Jonas perma sweating and half naked this show is for you! But for real, this show has an amazing first season, taking place in an MMA gym in Venice Beach. Trust me just watch it, the drama is all good.

So what do you guys think? Will you give any of these shows a shot? Let us know what you think or what you think we should be watching this fall.

Game of Thrones – NEW SEASONS ADDED

Happy Friday to my #GameofThrones fans! HBO’s president of programming Michael Lombardo announced this week that he anticipates three more seasons of Game of Thrones before its done! Which means the original anticipated seven is getting an extra year! How awesome is that?

There might also be talks about a prequel in the works, HBO is definitely game for a prequel series if showrunners David Benioff and D.B Weiss sign on to write it. This is extremely good news, since lately we’ve been discussing the end of GoT and what that might mean for a possible prequel. I would love to see the story of Rhaegar and Lyanna, and how little baby Jon Snow was born. This might mean the return of actor Sean Bean who played Ned Stark – Lyanna’s brother. Okay, we’re getting way too excited about this because it might not even happen. But yay for season 8!

Lombardo also stressed that Jon Snow is definitely dead, but obviously he’s not. Technically, yes, he’s dead, but he’s coming back. We have pictures to prove it! – Jon Snow spotted in Brisbane where they’re shooting the upcoming season.

What do you guys think? Is Jon Snow coming back as himself next season, or maybe a direwolf? A Dragon? Or, is he really dead?? Also, prequels, what do you guys want to see?

This Week in TV!

With a new year upon us comes an array of new seasons of our favourite television shows. Okay, maybe array was a reach because there’s not a whole lot that’s started just yet. (Waiting on Scandal, How To Get Away with Murder, and of course Game of Thrones)

Memorable shows of the week: Girls, Shameless, Vanderpump Rules

GIRLS

Lena Dunham and her crazy bishes are back for an all new season. Totally forgot how we left off last season, but still totally excited for the girls. Hannah is on her way out of the city for a graduating writing program in Idaho. Yeah, Idaho. Adam has no gained control of their apartment, she’s no longer paying rent so I guess this means she’s gone for good. Or at least until she realizes she’s making a huge mistake, which seeing how there’s only 10 episodes a season won’t take that long.

Brunch

Adam’s all heartbroken that Hannah’s leaving but doesn’t show it at all at the beginning of the episode. He’s all ‘we have 10 different ways of contacting each other –we’ll be fine’ and then in the end he finally admits he sucks at using the phone. Hannah assures him they will be alright. Nothing like boring missionary sexy (very unlike Hannah/Adam) to guarantee how wrong she is about their fate.

Shoshanna had the best lines of the episode. This is what’s so amazing about the writing of this show. They have about 27 minutes to explain all of everything, and each line of dialogue has to be used carefully. While she’s picking up her diploma we realize how crazy her divorced parents are, she says “Both my parents are named Mel (Melvin & Melanie) it’s the worst thing that ever happened to me. And it was like the first thing that ever happened to me”

Jessa visits Beadie, the woman she tried to kill last season. Let me make that clear, Beadie was on her death bed and begged Jessa to basically feed her a bunch of pills so she could overdose. Welp, it didn’t work and now Beadie’s angry daughter played by (Orange Is The New Black’s Natasha Lyonne) is back in the city to take her mom back home with her.

Marnie and Desi perform a few songs at a brunch, we find out that Desi is still dating Clementine, but is also still sticking his face in places it doesn’t belong. (ie; Marnie’s ass) Clementine confronts Marnie and apologizes to her for thinking she was trying to steal her man. Oh Marnie, now you’re up against the nice girl! While Marnie sings a song dedicated to Hannah titled, ‘Inward and Outward’ she breaks down crying when some brats around the restaurant start running and screaming. Elijah gives her the pep talk of the decade.

In the end, Hannah is ready to leave. Adam isn’t ready to leave, so he avoids the morning of and Hannah leaves without a real goodbye. As her parents drive of her off, he watches them from the window of their apartment.

Side note: There was a conversation between Shoshanna and Ray, something about her apologizing for making him get into a relationship with her. I don’t even remember that, nor do I care about their storyline. Ugh, he annoys me.

Girls airs Sunday nights on HBO

SHAMELESS

Shameless is like, probably in my top 3 favourite shows. I love my medieval times, zombie apocalypse genred shows, but there’s something special about the raw/real moments of Shameless. I would definitely consider Shameless a ‘dramedy’ a blend of really heavy dramatic moments with surprisingly refreshing comedic bits. I think it’s a perfect combination of both genres that create really great television show. It’s summertime in Chi-town which is going to make this a little more interesting, majority of the show has taken place over the colder months so I’m excited to see our characters flourish in the atmosphere of bbq’s and pool parties.

Shameless

Seriously, if you’re not watching Shameless you need to.

Shameless airs Sunday nights on Showtime.

Vanderpump Rules

I don’t even know why I’m admitting to watching this show. It’s like the worst show on television, or at least the worst example of reality television. It’s so ridiculous, and I know it’s all set up drama, but ya can’t help but watching! Especially since everything else is on hiatus right now, desperate times.

I just want to say though, this season has been different, in a good way. Especially these past two weeks for Scheana and Shay’s bachelor/bachelorette parties. You can tell that this group is actually friends with one another and it sort of – almost, reminded me of the Jersey Shore cast. In my opinion, you don’t always have to have fake drama to catch people’s attention. Sometimes the funny moments with real friends is enough to start a cult following!

Which leads me to my next point – Stassi. Okay so why is she on the show though? She no longer works at Sur, she quit, and she loves to remind us on a weekly basis that she would rather die than put on a Sur uniform and work there again. Since the season started almost all her scenes have been when she ‘visits’ Sur, somehow has a heart to heart with Lisa Vanderpump, and bugs all the bartenders for a glass of white wine. Girl, bye! Like why are you even here? Last night’s episode had the most epic line of all time. Lisa Vanderpump having a sit down heart to heart with Stassi inside Sur. After telling Stassi she should just forgive Katie for basically nothing because Katie did nothing wrong, Stassi blows up and storms out of the restaurant. Lisa finally says what we’ve all known, Stassi doesn’t want friends, she wants followers. This is so true, and for the past 3 seasons I’ve watched all her ‘friends’ get into all this drama because of her. I just want to pop in and be like ‘ya’ll could have so much fun without mean girl molly’ and by the looks of the Miami trip, they sure did. VR should take a page from Jersey Shore’s rulebook that clearly stated, if you quit or got fired from working at the Shore Store you were kicked outta the house! It’s time for Stassi to pull an Angelina, take her trash bags and get out!

Vanderpump Rules airs on Bravo on Mondays (US) and Slice on Tuesday (Canada)
