YONCE: On the Run Tour!

We know HBO is in works producing a full concert documentary for Beyonce and Jay-Z, but here’s a short video we shot from the concert last week in Toronto.

Beyonce and Jay-Z performing in Toronto for the On the Run Tour.

HERNAMEISBANKS and she’s killing it.

She’s a Goddess and she definitely got this.

As she stands on stage and sings her soul out to the audience of Toronto’s The Hoxton, we can’t help but be bewitched by this tiny girl with haunting lyrics and a hypnotic voice. Some people say she looks like a witch, with her ‘all-black everything’ wardrobe and flowy black cape. But, realistically this girl is a modern day heroine. If you haven’t checked out her music, you’re absolutely missing out. She’s a genius and I love The Weeknd for introducing us to a talent that won’t be fading away anytime soon.

Her performance on June 10th at The Hoxton lasted for about an hour, she sang two encore songs, and still had the audience wanting more. Not too crazy about the venue, but she was hauntingly vibrant on stage and I can’t wait to hear more music from this girl.

Check out our video from her performance and check out @hernameisbanks  and her YouTube page for all her music.

Suits: Bye Bye Donna!

I’ve recently caught up with the last few episodes of USA’s Suits starring Gabriel Macht and Patrick J. Adams. We are smack dab in the middle of the 2nd season and it’s getting hot and heavy inside Pearson and Hardman!

An old case of Harvey’s is brought back into the picture when his arch nemesis Travis Tanner takes on the case. Not only is he re-opening the case with some new found evidence but he’s suing Harvey for always dressing better than him- no really, Harvey is being sued for apparently ‘hiding’ evidence.

While that’s happening, Handsome Harold can’t keep his eyes off Rachel, he offers to help her out by bringing his entire highlighter collection into her office. I really enjoyed how the writer’s orchestrated their storyline in the midst of all the Harvey drama, they manage to make the audience laugh in between the cold stares and dramatic paper signings.

While Harvey tries to out smart Travis Tanner which seems a daunting challenge in this episode, Mike and Donna are left searching through the case’s old files looking for a piece of evidence that might’ve slipped through. In the late hours, Donna is alone in the file room when she stumbles upon the paper Harvey was looking for. Unfortunately, for Donna the paper was stamped and signed by her! When Harvey asked in the beginning of the episode if Donna had ever seen it, she obviously didn’t remember coming across it, and she immediately knows…she’s dunzo. Rachel walks in on Donna while she’s having a mild heart attack and instinctively knows somethings wrong. The next day Donna tries to hide her panic when she’s caught at the paper shredder by Mike. After Donna admits to him she found the document, he tells her she needs to tell Harvey. Obviously, she freaks out and can’t come clean. Daniel Hardman makes the decision to bring on an outside lawyer who will investigate the case on Harvey and the rest of the firm. Only problem, Harvey and Jessica don’t trust her. After she interviews Harvey, she moves on to the person closest to him which would be Donna. Donna freaks out during her interview and refuses to co-operate. Mike has no choice but to tell Harvey what she found. Harvey confronts Donna in the washroom, and I’ve never seen Harvey get so angry!

In the end, Rachel finds out Donna messed up big time, but Mike tells her Harvey will figure it out. Jessica confronts Donna in Harvey’s office and tells her she isn’t there to see Harvey but to see Donna. She immediately knows she’s about to get fired, Jessica hates that she’s the one to deliver the bad news, but obviously Harvey is to in love with Donna to fire her himself. It was literally the saddest scene that ever took place behind those glass doors…and I was holding back the tears. Donna packs up her desk and makes her way to the elevators as Mike and Rachel watch in disbelief.

Harvey is waiting at the elevators, he can’t say anything to her, she looks at him almost as if she’s angry and dissapointed by him, he calls for the elevator and she leaves! Such a sad ending, I never expected Suits to get so deep, but I like it! Not that I like seeing Donna leave, she is one of my favourite characters, but I suspect she will be back once Harvey realizes he cannot replace her- oh and the fact he’s completely in love with her!

Real Housewives of Vancouver!

So I don’t know if the episode I watched last night was the series premiere, regardless the housewives of Vancouver are really boring. Of course, Canada had to come up with their own version of The Housewives saga, and I guess Vancouver was the chosen city. It is a beautiful city, and I’m not even hating on the look of the show. These women are definitely well off, and the homes they live in are stunning.

But, they literally are bat s*** crazy. Each and every one of them. It’s not like  the American versions like RHONJ where Caroline is so normal she could be my mom, or Lisa and Kyle from RHOBH who are mentally stable. Each one of these housewives from Vancouver have serious mental and emotional issues, first of all I don’t even know how they all know each other.

The one mom- Mary, who looked completely normal in the beginning, invites her ‘best-friend’ Ronnie to this girls weekend in Whistler, except Ronnie completely embarrasses Mary in front of the other girls, she was SO rude to her, and Mary just sat there taking it all in. What’s wrong with you!

The other one, I don’t even know her name but we can call her ‘Golddigger’ since she clearly states her income is from her past 2 divorces. That actually makes me sick, this is why women are underestimated. We’ve worked hard to make a place for us within the work field, earning salaries that compete with our male counterparts. But women like her give us a bad rap. (That was my feminist rant for the day).

Anyways, there’s one housewife that’s half Asian I think, she seemed a little normal. She had a family, and a cute house and a dangerous obsession with fast cars. Meh.

Realistically, I probably won’t watch this show again. Nothing made me want to tune in for next week’s episode, aside from the fact that somebody needs to knock out Ronnie. Asap.

TIFF 2011

TIFF 2011 officially starts up tomorrow…and for someone that was genuinely excited to see a film (I’m a film student), I’m having trouble finding tickets.

At first, I wanted to take my mother to The Ides of March, the much talked about film by George Clooney. Obviously, the film is completely sold out, and my only chances of getting a glimpse of this film before it hits major theatres is to wait in the rush lines Saturday morning. Lame.

I gave up on seeing anything remotely popular…and began to think of indie films people might not want to see. Again, I’m having trouble finding tickets to films that are not even in English!!

Honestly, what is going on!! TIFF is bigger than ever…and us measly film students can’t even get a pair of decent tickets!!

For those of you who already have your tickets…well then you’re pretty darn lucky! The rest…I’ll see you in the rush lines.

Women’s FIFA World Cup: UPDATE

Yesterday was the opener of the Women’s FIFA World Cup in Berlin, Germany. The match was between Canada VS Germany…and Germany won 2-1. Although I wanted my fellow Canadians to win the opener, I have to admit it, Germany played a better game.

Check out Canada’s next game on June 30th against France.

New Music: The Weeknd

The Weeknd is my favourite new artist coming straight from my hometown Toronto Canada. My cousin first introduced me to his music about a week ago and ever since then I can’t stop listening to his mix-tape titled ‘House of Balloons’. His music has been categorized as R&B with a half-rap half-singing mix, that gives off a very sexy and mysterious vibe. Obviously my man Drake has something to do with this, their music kind of sounds the same. Fans discovered Drake’s following with this new artist when Drake tweeted lyrics from The Weeknd’s House of Balloons. Here is just ONE of my favourite tracks. Ladies and Gentlemen I introduce to you yet another Canadian talent The Weeknd.
