O-M-G I have been waiting patiently for the Vampire Diaries season premiere…and it was kind of a let down. I think I just expected to see Elena jump off and be this amazingly poised Vampire- but she wasn’t. Even if it wasn’t what I expected, VD is still an amazing show, and Julie Plec is God.
So Elena isn’t a vampire just yet, the episode resumes from where last season’s finale finished off. Elena has a day to feed so her vampire transition can be completed. Stefan and Bonnie think magic might turn Elena back into a human, so they wait until Bonnie finds the right spell. Unfortunately, for the vampires there’s a new gang in Mystic Falls and they’re all appropriately suited to hunt vamps. Stefan,Elena and Rebecca are captured and put into vampire prison.
Caroline and fake Tyler almost hook up, Klaus is really in Tyler’s body but nobody knows until he starts calling Caroline ‘love’…then Caroline realizes she was so close to having sex with Klaus! Which might not have been a bad thing. I feel like there has to be something that happens between Caroline and Klaus. They wouldn’t of brought his character this far so that he could just leave Mystic Falls. I would love a Caroline and Klaus storyline, only because she hates him so much!
The episode felt extremely fast, there were a lot of questions being asked, and mostly just self-discovery from Elena. She starts tripping out when her vampire senses start kicking in. While she’s locked up in the cell beside Stefan, and across from Rebecca, Stefan can hear her breathing and it doesn’t sound normal. She needs to feed or she will die.
Bonnie and Jeremy go at the spell, but Bonnie enters into a really dark magical place, she sees Elena sitting on the prison floor and goes to grab her. Just then Bonnie’s gram shows up and pulls Elena back down onto the floor. Her grams warns her that the magic is too dark, and that the forces will punish her for messing around with the natural order of things. As per usual ,Bonnie’s nose starts bleeding, Jeremy is freaking out as if he’s never seen this before…and Bonnie wakes up- the spell didn’t work. She can’t bring Elena back.
As Elena is slowly dying, Stefan and Rebecca come up with a plan to kill one of the guards. When the guard steps closer to Rebecca’s cell she scares him and he literally jumps back into Stefan’s arms, Stefan kills him and the guard drops to the floor…a pool of blood surrounding him. Elena tries to grab for him but she’s a little too far…after 5 minutes (real time) she finally reaches the blood with the tips of her fingers- and that’s enough to complete her transition.
Klaus/Tyler force Bonnie into returning Klaus into his real body. She tells him she can’t do it, the magic is too strong, and she literally almost just died. Klaus threatens to rip Tyler’s heart out, Bonnie has no choice. In the midst of the magic, her grams shows up again, this time to basically yell at Bonnie for doing another spell, the dark forces are punishing Bonnie by destroying grams. She’s dead.
Damon and Matt show up at the vampire hunter estate- Damon almost kills Matt. Before Elena got locked up, Damon had a deep conversation with Elena about his feelings, and the fact that he did love her, but he wanted Stefan to have her. And then he erases her memory of the entire convo. In the end, Elena is officially a vampire, she goes up to Damon and tells him she remembers everything. It doesn’t matter if you’ve erased all of her memory, if she turns into a vampire- she remembers everything. He tells her he would’ve never saved Matt, he would’ve saved her first- Elena is upset that Matt would’ve been killed, but she realizes how much Damon loves her- and how selfish he can be for her safety. Obviously, she’s got some soul searching to do. Well, not really since she doesn’t have a soul anymore.
Stefan and Elena enjoy a beautiful sunrise as vampires, for the first time. It was the cutest scene ever, Stefan pulls out a daylight ring Bonnie had made for her a few days ago. Klaus is back to normal, Rebecca is pissed off at him for not saving her from the vampire hunters. They are the most dysfunctional family ever, it seems like Rebecca will no longer have her brother’s back…mainly because he snaps her neck and leaves her on the floor.
